# Close, reopen and delete surveys

> Stop a survey taking responses, reopen it later, or delete it, and how Trash works for surveys deleted from an AI app.

## Close a survey

Closing stops new responses and keeps everything you've collected.

1. On the **Surveys** page, open the survey's **More actions** menu.
2. Choose **Close to new responses**.

Customers who open the link see **This survey is closed**. Your results, coupon sets and links stay as they are.

## Reopen it

Open the **More actions** menu and choose **Reopen**, or in the editor choose **Publish and reopen**. The same links work again.

Hearsay also closes every live survey in a workspace when the month's responses run out, and reopens them on the 1st. See [Monthly limits](https://docs.hearsay.co.in/billing/monthly-limits).

## Delete a survey

1. Open the survey's **More actions** menu and choose **Delete**.
2. Confirm in **Delete survey?**

> **Warning: Deleting from Hearsay is permanent**
>
> A survey deleted on the Surveys page is gone straight away, with all its responses. It can't be undone. If you might need the answers, close it instead, or [export the responses](https://docs.hearsay.co.in/results/export) first.

Editors can delete the surveys they created; owners and admins can delete any survey. See [Roles and what each can do](https://docs.hearsay.co.in/workspace/roles).

## Trash: surveys deleted from an AI app

When you ask Claude or ChatGPT to delete a survey, it isn't deleted straight away. It's closed and moved to **Trash** at the bottom of the **Surveys** page, where it stays for 30 days. After that, it and its responses are deleted for good.

From Trash you can:

- **Restore** it. It comes back closed; reopen it when you're ready.
- **Delete now**, then confirm with **Delete for good**.

Trash only appears when it has something in it.
