# Save segments and compare groups

> Save a filter as a segment that stays up to date, and compare two groups side by side, like detractors against everyone else.

Segments and comparing are on Pro and above.

## Save a segment

A segment is a saved filter, such as "Instagram, last 30 days" or "Detractors". Hearsay keeps it up to date in the background, so it opens instantly.

1. On the Analytics page, set up a filter. See [Filter results](https://docs.hearsay.co.in/results/filters).
2. Choose **Save as segment**, give it a **Segment name** and choose **Save segment**.
3. It builds in the background (it shows **building** until then) and stays up to date after that.

Switch between segments with the menu that says **All responses**. A segment's filter chips are read-only; choose **Edit as filter** to change them, and **Manage segments…** to rename or delete segments.

Each survey can have 3 segments on Pro, 20 on Business and 50 on Enterprise.

## Compare two groups

Use **Compare with…** to put two groups side by side: the current view (A) against **All responses**, **Everyone else** (when you've filtered) or another segment (B).

The numbers at the top become **Responses**, **Avg. completion time**, **On mobile** and **Net Promoter Score** for each group, with the difference. Choice, rating and ranking questions get a table with **Answer**, **A**, **B** and **Difference** in percentage points.

When either group has fewer than 30 answers, Hearsay marks the comparison as a small sample, because the differences may be chance.

**Example:** filter to the `counter-qr` channel, then compare with **Everyone else** to see whether in-store customers are happier than online ones.
