# Roles and what each can do

> The four roles in a workspace, owner, admin, editor and viewer, and exactly what each one can do.

Everyone in a workspace has one role. Each role can do everything the role below it can, and more.

- **Viewer**: sees surveys, analytics and responses.
- **Editor**: also builds, publishes and shares surveys, and sets up coupons and brands.
- **Admin**: also invites people, deletes anyone's surveys, and manages webhooks and billing.
- **Owner**: also manages admins and can hand the workspace to someone else. Each workspace has one owner: whoever created it, until they transfer it.

Your role is on your [profile](https://docs.hearsay.co.in/workspace/profile) and next to the workspace's name on **Workspace and team**. It can be different in each workspace you belong to.

> **Note: Viewers see some buttons they can't use**
>
> The **Surveys** page and the survey editor show the same buttons to everyone. If a viewer tries to create, change, publish or delete a survey, Hearsay stops them with **This action needs the editor role or higher.**

## Billing

Owners and admins can both upgrade, switch plans, buy coupon packs and manage billing on **Plan and billing**. Editors and viewers see that the workspace's plan covers them, and can't change it. See [Upgrade, switch or move to Free](https://docs.hearsay.co.in/billing/manage-plan).

## Pick a role for someone

- **Viewer** for people who only read results: a manager, an investor, a client.
- **Editor** for people who build and run surveys day to day.
- **Admin** for people who look after the team, integrations and billing.
