Transfer ownership

Hand a workspace to another team member, what changes for you and for billing, and why the owner can't leave until they do.

Every workspace has one owner: whoever created it, until they hand it on. The owner can do everything, including managing admins. They can't leave the workspace, and they're never paused.

Make someone else the owner

Only the owner can do this.

  1. In the sidebar, choose Workspace and team.
  2. Under Transfer ownership, pick the New owner. You can pick any active team member, whatever their role.
  3. Choose Transfer ownership.
  4. Confirm with Transfer ownership.

Hearsay shows who now owns the workspace.

If the list is empty, it says Invite someone first: ownership can go to any active team member. Invite them, wait for them to accept, then come back. You can't pick someone who's paused.

What changes

  • The new owner gets the Owner role. You become an Admin.
  • The plan, its payments and everything in the workspace stay as they are. Billing belongs to the workspace, not to a person, so nothing needs to be paid again.
  • The new owner can manage the plan and billing. Because admins can too, you still can as well. See Roles and what each can do.

Only the new owner can undo it, by transferring ownership back to you.

Leave a workspace you own

The owner can't leave. Transfer ownership first, then leave as an admin. See Leave a workspace.

If you're the only person in the workspace, there's no one to hand it to. You can stop paying for it by moving it to Free. To have it deleted, write to support@hearsay.co.in.
